What Is An Outdoor Wood Furnace?

If you are building a home and you want to try to be as environmentally friendly as possible, you are probably looking at ways that you can stay off the grid so that you aren't using resources. You might want to look at using an outdoor wood furnace for your new house. You might not think that an outdoor furnace would be a good way to go, but it can be a really good idea.
Outdoor Wood Furnace
An outdoor wood furnace isn't quite like a wood stove. They have some things in common, but the furnace will do more than just provide heat. The furnace is basically a boiler. The way that it works is that there is a firebox into which you feed the wood and where the heat is generated. A heat exchanger is connected to the firebox. Surrounding the firebox and the heat exchanger is a jacket that is filled with water. The heat from the firebox transfers to the water, and then that water is pumped into your house and through radiators so that it will heat up your house. The hot water will also be hooked up to your plumbing so that when you turn on the hot water faucet, water from your furnace will come out. More water will come into your furnace to be heated up as needed. There are benefits to using an outdoor wood furnace.
Will Burn Most Anything
One of the benefits of using an outdoor wood furnace over something like a wood stove is that it will burn most any kind of wood, even the knotty bits that would not necessarily burn well in a wood stove. When you are using a wood stove to heat your house, you have to make sure that the pieces of wood are just the right size and you have to make sure that they meet certain criteria, like no knots and such. But, when you are feeding a wood furnace, it doesn't matter how big the pieces are — you just need to be able to fit them into the firebox so you don't have to split them, and you can burn the knotty, green, or wet wood that you have laying around.
If you are building a new house, you need to make sure that you have the right kind of heating source. An outdoor wood furnace may be a good choice for you.
